Lisandro Martinez is reportedly not interested in extending his Manchester United contract after criticising the club’s leadership following their 0-2 defeat by Atletico in the Champions League.
The Athletic reports that Manchester United are also questioning whether it would be worthwhile activating the extension clause in the defender’s current agreement.
Martinez’s contract runs until the end of the 2026/2027 season. It includes an option for Manchester United to extend the deal by a further year.
The Argentina international previously issued a lengthy statement explaining comments that had attracted significant attention. He said they reflected his desire to compete for football’s most valuable trophies.
Martinez’s future at Manchester United could therefore depend on whether the club chooses to exercise the additional-year option, with his current deal already covering the next two seasons.
