Lyon’s interest in forward Xherdan Shaqiri has been covered regularly by the French press and media, with things going a little quiet in the latest days.

When the reports of interest in the out-of-favour Liverpool star first came to light, the media close to Les Gones made it clear there would be two issues standing in the way of a possible move.

Firstly, the sum the Reds will be asking for the former Stoke City man, and secondly the wages the player currently earns at Anfield.

It’d appear there’s been no progress on the transfer sum front, with Le Progres claiming the ‘gap is significant’ between the Anfield outfit and the Ligue 1 side when it comes to transfer fee.

Talks have started, although it does not appear there’s been much progress on getting Xherdan to Peter Bosz’s side. According to the aforementioned source, Lyon are optimistic that things will become easier as the end of the transfer market approaches.

They think ‘common ground’ will be easier to find as the time left remaining in the transfer window quickly reduces, so are clearly expecting the Premier League giants to reduce their demands.
