In the absence of Lionel Messi and Neymar, who were both rested following their World Cup qualifying efforts this week, Ander Herrera scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain beat promoted Clermont 4-0 on Saturday.

On 19 minutes, the Spanish midfielder put PSG ahead at the Parc des Princes, and on the half-hour, he added a second from close range.

PSG's third goal came when Kylian Mbappe shook off a calf injury he sustained while on international duty with France and sprinted clear of the Clermont defenders before Idrissa Gueye headed in a fourth.

Mauricio Pochettino's side made it five wins in a row in Ligue 1, extending their advantage over Angers, who face struggling Brest on Sunday, to five points.

Pochettino left Argentina's Messi and Angel Di Maria, as well as Brazil's Neymar, out of the team to give them more time to heal before their Champions League opening against Club Brugge on Wednesday.
