Jules Kounde's transfer to Chelsea was blocked by the Sevilla board because the club wanted Chelsea to meet his £68m release clause, The Sun reports.

However, the Blues did not go above their £42.8m offer, which was rejected.

Speaking to Diario de Sevilla, as quoted by The Sun, manager Julen Lopetegui said: "Kounde in the end has stayed because the club has decided that it was the right thing to do based on the evaluation of the offers they may have had.

"For me, as a coach, that Jules stays is positive. With the evolution he has had in these two years, it is positive, without any doubt."
