If Ousmane Dembele does not sign his new contract, Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is willing to leave him in the stands.
Dembele's current contract expires in June, and negotiations for a new one are well underway.
There is optimism that the France attacker will put pen to paper.
Koeman said: "Dembélé? First, that he renew his contract, because it is his last year and for the club, it is important that he renew.
"Dembélé is a very, very good player if he is physically well. When he recovers he will be a vital footballer."
Dembele is recovering from an injury. He was supposed to be out for four months due to a tendon injury in his right knee, but he can only undertake strengthening exercises in the afflicted area right now.
Dembele should be completely fit by mid-October if all goes according to plan.
