According to ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens, Barcelona has turned down Tottenham Hotspur's initial proposal for right-back Emerson Royal, despite the club's financial difficulties.

Spurs' offer was said to be €20 million-plus Serge Aurier, who was left out of the north London club's 1-0 victory against Watford on Sunday.

According to Marsden and Llorens, Barcelona will only entertain a "large" offer for Emerson. Sergino Dest started the first two La Liga games of the season for Barcelona, but Emerson was chosen to start the encounter against Getafe on Sunday.

This season, head coach Ronald Koeman wants the two players to fight for the right-back spot.

Emerson returned to Barcelona this summer after a €9 million option to bring him back from Real Betis was exercised. The Andalusian club will be entitled to a portion of any future transfer money received by the Blaugrana for Emerson.
