Leicester City’s Recent Struggles Continues

Published on: 11 October 2022

When being mentioned before in recent years, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City were considered as one of the big boys of the English Premier League.

Pulling off the Great Escape in 2015, winning the Premier League against all odds in 2016 and being FA Cup and Community Shield winners in 2021 pitted Leicester in a position to break into the Top Six in England.

However the foxes who lost out on Champions League football on the final day twice in consecutive seasons in 19/20 and 20/21 have fallen off badly this current 22/23 season.

The Foxes also failed to qualify for Europe last season and loosing the Conference League Semifinals to eventual winners Roma.

After loosing key players in Wesley Fofana and Kasper Schmiecel and injuries to key players like Wilfred Ndidi, it hasn’t been an easy ride for Leicester City.

Last night, Leicester City were brought back down to earth in a humbling 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend and with a quarter of the season gone Leicester sit rock bottom of the league with just 4 points.

This was after an impressive 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest and the Foxes seemed to be back to their best but with hindsight it’s safe to say they flattered to deceive.

It was the first PL win for Brendan Rodgers this season, and despite starting Saturday’s game off on a strong foot, all their hopes for a second win came crashing.

Patson Daka’s opener in the 10th minute gave the Foxes momentum and they closed the half, protecting that lead.

In the second half though, Bournemouth were more dangerous in attack and caused the Leicester defence a lot of problems.

Eventually, the pressure paid off and Philip Billing hit home a rebound in the 67th minute to bring the sides level, and four minutes later Bournemouth had turned the game around through Ryan Christie.

Several changes after falling behind including bringing on Kelechi Iheanacho to salvage a point failed yield a result.

Rodgers was also without Wilfred Ndidi, who has been ruled out for at least two weeks following another injury relapse.

Leicester are currently bottom of the table on four points after Emmanuel Dennis and Taiwo Awoniyi’s Nottingham Forest drew against Aston Villa.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is definitely on the hot seat and will be urging his players to turn their season around.

It’s key to note that part of Leicester’s poor form is down to the management as important players where let go without being replaced.

Rodgers and Leicester will battle 15th place Crystal Palace who are on 9 points and will be eager to get all three points at the King Power Stadium.
