Leeds United Interested in Loan Move for Arsenal Youngster Rob Holding to Further Promotion Push

Published on: 23 December 2016

"?Championship promotion contenders Leeds United are investigating the option to bring in highly-rated Arsenal youngster Rob Holding on loan.

The versatile defender, who featured in several games earlier in the season due to Arsenal's injury problems, has Championship experience, having impressed for Bolton Wanderers last season.

According to "?HITC, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is considering letting the 21-year-old leave the club temporarily in order to help further his development.

Holding started Arsenal's first three Premier League games this season but has found first-team opportunities harder to come by in recent months, appearing in three EFL Cups ties as well as a solitary Champions League match earlier this month.

Holding was given an opportunity at the start of the season due to first-choice centre back Laurent Koscielny being given time off following Euro 2016, while Per Mertesacker and Gabriel were both injured. Shkodran Mustafi soon signed for the club, with Holding now seemingly fifth in the pecking order at the Emirates.

Leeds' current centre-back pairing of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley has proven to be one of the most impressive in the Championship, with Garry Monk's side's defensive record among the best in the league.

With the club hoping to qualify for the playoffs at the end of the season, a signing of Holding's pedigree on loan would bolster their promotion charge, but such a move seems unlikely to benefit Arsenal, who may need to call upon the youngster should injuries pile up.

The player could also struggle for chances at Elland Road, with Jansson and Bartley impressing while Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling have also proven themselves to be able deputies.
