Lazio secured a 3-1 home win over Monza in the sixth round of the Italian championship, taking control of the match with two goals before half-time.

Nuno Tavares opened the scoring for the hosts in the third minute, taking advantage of an opportunity in the Monza penalty area to put Lazio ahead.

The Rome side continued to press and doubled their lead in the 23rd minute. Gustav Isaksen found the net for Lazio’s second goal, leaving Monza with a significantly more difficult task.

Monza responded immediately after the interval. Saba Goglichidze pulled a goal back in the 46th minute, reducing the deficit to one and giving the visitors renewed hope of rescuing a result.

The visitors then needed another successful attack to draw level, but they were unable to find an equaliser. Lazio held on to their advantage before settling the contest in the 88th minute, when Andrea Pinamonti scored the hosts’ third goal.
