Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed that the Spanish midfield talisman wanted to leave the club in search of a new playing experience.
He left Madrid for a move to the Blues on transfer deadline day, which the president said was concluded at 23:57 – three minutes before deadline.

Cerezo said: "Saul wanted to leave. His desire was to join Chelsea, we agreed. I was not worried in the last minutes of the transfer, although the Saul deal was closed at 23.57."
The 26-year-old transferred on an initial loan for €5m, with a buy option for €35m
