Kylian Mbappe remains unable to train with Real Madrid after suffering a hyperextension to his left knee while on international duty with France.
Real Madrid and France agreed that the forward should return to the Spanish capital for immediate treatment, although the length of his absence has not been confirmed.
A statement from Real Madrid said: “After tests carried out today by Real Madrid's medical department on our player Kylian Mbappe, he's been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee.”
Initial assessments suggested Mbappe would recover in time to train before Real Madrid’s meeting with Villarreal on 10 October. However, that now appears to be in serious doubt.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Mbappe returned to Madrid five days ago but has not yet resumed training. He was also seen at a party in Paris last Wednesday with his partner, Ester Exposito.
There is reportedly no concern about his attendance at the event. Jose Mourinho is said to have authorised the break, while Real Madrid’s players who were not involved in international duty continued training at Valdebebas.
