Kylian Mbappe has ended a near 20-year partnership with Nike and signed with Swiss sportswear brand On.
The Real Madrid forward is the first major football signing for On, which is making a significant move into the sport through its collaboration with the France international.
Mbappe said the chance to help develop products for the future of football was central to his decision to join the company.
“What attracted me to On from the very beginning was the opportunity to build something completely new together, something capable of shaping the football of tomorrow,” he said in a statement published through On’s official channels.
“I want to bring my experience and vision to our designs, continue exploring the possibilities offered by innovation and remain true to my passion for football. We share the same dream and this is only the beginning.”
On was founded in 2010 and initially focused on running shoes before expanding into other sports, including tennis. The company now aims to establish itself in the football market with Mbappe as a central part of its plans.
Its first football boot is expected to go on sale in 2027. Mbappe will work directly with the brand’s developers, helping to test and refine the products before their release.
The project will also involve former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry, who has been appointed On’s director of football.
Henry has been working behind the scenes on the brand’s entry into football since the end of 2025. His role will include contributing to the development of On’s football products and helping the company build its approach to the sport.
“To build something new in football, you need a bold and original approach,” Henry said.
“Over the past year, I have been able to see at close hand the curiosity and attention to detail that the On team is putting into this process.
“We want to listen to players, understand their needs and create something that brings real added value to football. I am proud to help build the future.”
Mbappe’s move brings his long association with Nike to an end, while giving On a high-profile entry point into football through one of the sport’s leading players. The collaboration will initially focus on creating and testing products, with the first On football boot scheduled for 2027.
