Kurz: Best first half of season

Published on: 10 January 2019

Coach Marco Kurz congratulated his players after Adelaide United picked up a 2-0 win over defending champions Melbourne Victory.

It extended their unbeaten run to four games and moved them above Wellington Phoenix into fifth spot in the A-League.

And after a first-half in which they scored twice in the space of three minutes - through Craig Goodwin and Ken Ilso - the Reds didn't falter in the second period.

Kurz felt Adelaide were excellent in the opening half, blowing Victory away with some eye-catching football and a high-pressing game.

"The first half was maybe the best in the season," said the coach. "The second one was more (of a) fight; I think we must in the future be more clever to stay in our opposition (half) and to play better the final pass.

"I think from the first minute on we showed everybody in the stadium that we are ready for a big game and that we are ready for a big win."

Kurz added: "It was a good step to win against Victory at home is always a big win, it's a derby and it's the champion from last season."

Adelaide have had three home games out of four since Boxing Day, taking an eight-point haul to recover after starting December with back-to-back losses against Victory and Melbourne City.

Kurz's side now face three straight away games, taking on both Sydney clubs before travelling to leaders Perth Glory.

Meanwhile, the Reds have confirmed that defender Taylor Regan has left the club to pursue an opportunity overseas.

The centre-back joined the club in 2016, playing 38 matches across all competitions, and was part of United's 2018 FFA Cup triumph.

Adelaide United are 12/1 to win the Grand Final.

The Reds are 3/1 to win their next game against Sydney FC, who are 17/20 with the draw 13/5.
