Kroos aims to retire with Real

Germany midfielder Toni Kroos says he has his mind set on retiring when his current contract with Real Madrid runs out in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old moved to the Santiago Bernabeu five years ago and has helped Real to three Champions League successes, a La Liga title and victories in the Spanish Super Cup UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

When I am aged 33, that would be a good age to retire.

In total Kroos has made 233 outings in all competitions for the Spanish giants, scoring 13 goals, while on the international stage he is just eight short of completing a century of appearances for Germany.

Kroos told Bild: "When I am aged 33, that would be a good age to retire.

"My contract duration was chosen consciously. At 33, that would be a good age to hang up the boots. I will have the opportunity at that moment to choose if I want to do something after that.

"Signing for Real Madrid is the best thing I could have done - I will never play in the United States, China or Qatar."

Last season Real finished in third place in La Liga, ending up some 19 points adrift of champions Barcelona and eight behind city rivals Atletico.

In the Champions League they were beaten in the last-16 by Ajax, while Barca got the better of their great rivals in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Real are 11/8 to be crowned Spanish champions next season, while they are 8/1 to win the Champions League.
