Krepin Diatta’s difficult search for a new club became a matter of concern in Senegal, with government authorities reportedly asking about the player’s situation, according to his agent Thierno Seydi.
The 27-year-old Senegal international, who has won 65 caps and scored two goals, was not offered a new contract by AS Monaco. Despite producing a strong individual performance at the 2026 World Cup, he struggled to attract offers during the summer transfer window.
Diatta eventually joined Watford in the English second tier on a deal running until the end of the season. However, Seydi said the uncertainty surrounding the move created considerable pressure for the player, including within his own family.
“I have never experienced this level of pressure,” Seydi said in an interview with the SportElles channel.
The agent added that the interest extended beyond Diatta’s personal and professional circle, with Senegalese authorities seeking updates on the right-back’s future.
Although the move to Watford provided Diatta with a club after his departure from AS Monaco, it fell short of the expectations initially surrounding his next step. The financial outcome was also less favourable than anticipated.
According to Seydi, Diatta turned down offers that would have paid him more, only to ultimately accept a lower deal when no suitable alternative emerged.
The Senegal international is now waiting to make his first appearance for Watford. He could play his first minutes for the club on Tuesday during the 10th round of Championship fixtures.
Diatta’s arrival comes as he looks to regain momentum after a period of uncertainty following his time at AS Monaco. His immediate opportunity to feature for Watford will depend on whether he is selected for the Championship match.
