Kotoko’s operations manager George Kennedy claims the late start of the Ghana Premier League accounted for their poor start.
The Asante Kotoko official insists the legal battle involving King Faisal and the Ghana FA rocked their program, leading to their unflattering start to the season.
Kotoko are now breathing room after a heroic performance at Bechem United last Sunday and boardroom points catapulted them to 8th on the league standings.
The Porcupine are now only nine points behind leaders Ashantigold after only 11 games and the club’s operations manager has attributed their slip in form to the delay start of the top-flight.
“We had a fantastic pre-season program, just like last season but the court issue really distracted our program. At a point, we didn’t know whether to break the players or camp them.”
“We pray it doesn’t happen again because it really affected us and Ghana football as a whole. When the road was finally cleared we were compelled to play on Wednesdays and Sundays which also made fatigue set in.
“We had to sacrifice the league and concentrate on Africa when we realized things were not working for us. Coaching was also a problem, we don’t just change coaches, there were reasons for the change.”
Kotoko play Liberty Professionals on Sunday.
