Asante Kotoko are seeking to recover at least GHC 143, 581.00, $114, 521.00 and €100,000 from Dr. K.K Sarpong in their statement of defence in a case brought against the club by their former chairman.
Dr. Sarpong has taken the club to court over claims he is owed GHC 536,247 with an annual interest of 15 percent by the club during his three-year reign as Executive Chairman.
The chartered accountant is also claiming GHC 20,000 from the club as the transfer amount he paid from his personal funds to secure Brazilian Hermes Da Silva.
But the champions in their defence have denied all these claims being made by their former chairman and rather say they are owed monies.
Kotoko are contesting Dr. Sarpong’s claim of being a chartered accountant in court.
The club in its defence is also demanding the reimbursement of a quoted a figure in excess of GHC 70,000 used on Kwame Baah Nuako and Patrick Ofori.
Payments of GHC 13,000, $10,000, $22, 000 and $15000 described as protocol, facilitators, and agency fee to Westone in the Yaw Frimpong transfer to TP Mezembe respectively are all being demanded by Asante Kotoko.
A $25,000 paid to Kwame Baah Nuakoh by way of travel expenses for the club’s participation in a tournament in Tanzania is also stated in the club’s statement of defence.
Kotoko’s filing of its defence sets the stage for what will be a thrilling and revealing legal battle between the Kumasi-based club and their former chairman in a landmark case which has the potential of changing football administration in Ghana.
Dr, Sarpong quit his position as Executive Chairman of the club two seasons ago having led the side to back-to-back league titles.
