Khephren Thuram faces lengthy Juventus absence after knee injury

Khephren Thuram is expected to miss at least four months after undergoing surgery on an injured knee, dealing Juventus a significant setback in midfield.

The France international is due to travel to Lyon on Wednesday, 2 September, where he will have the operation. His recovery is expected to take a minimum of four months, according to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport.

Thuram’s absence will leave Juventus without one of their midfield options for a substantial period. The precise length of his rehabilitation will depend on his recovery following the procedure, although the initial expectation is that he will be unavailable for no fewer than four months.

The 24-year-old joined Juventus in the summer of 2024 and has a contract with the club until the end of June 2029. He made 35 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Thuram was also shown two yellow cards during that campaign. His performances formed part of his early period at the Turin club, where he remains under contract for almost three more years beyond the current season.

The injury means his progress will now be centred on treatment and rehabilitation rather than competitive action. Juventus are awaiting the surgery in Lyon before the recovery process begins.

Thuram’s move to Juventus in 2024 marked the start of his time with the Italian club. He has since been included in the team’s midfield plans, but the knee problem will now keep him out for a prolonged spell.

The operation is scheduled for Wednesday, with the minimum projected recovery period set at four months. No shorter return has been indicated, meaning Juventus will have to plan without the midfielder throughout that initial rehabilitation window.

His record from last season consisted of 35 matches, three goals, three assists and two bookings. Those figures underline the role he played during his first full campaign with the club, although the injury will interrupt his involvement for the foreseeable future.

Thuram’s current agreement with Juventus runs through June 2029, giving the club and player a long-term contractual relationship despite the immediate disruption caused by the injury.
