Former Nigeria U17 captain Kelechi Nwakali has joined third tier England side, Barnsley FC from Portuguese side, G.D Chaves, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 26-year-old midfielder signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee subject to visa and international clearance.

He said, “I am very happy to sign for Barnsley Football Club. I spoke to Mladen and the Head Coach Darrell earlier in the summer and I knew that this was an exciting opportunity for me, I know I can bring a lot to the team..

“In my career, I need to prove a point again. Coming here, it’s time to prove myself to the world and have an impact on the club.”

The Super Eagles midfielder joined Chances last season scoring one goal and providing four assists.

The relationship between the Nigerian and the Portuguese side turned sour after Chaves filed a disciplinary case against Nwakali, who was on his phone on the substitute bench during Chaves home defeat to Famalicao.
