Kanu urges NFF to appoint Eguavoen as substantive Super Eagles coach

Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint Augustine Eguavoen as the substantive head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Eguavoen, who took over as caretaker coach in September, has impressed with three wins and one draw in four 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Kanu, chairman of Enyimba, expressed his frustration with the delay in confirming Eguavoen's position. "If I were the NFF President, I'd have given him the job by now," he told Brila FM.

"What are they waiting for? Are we waiting for him to lose two matches before we say he should go? This is overdue; they have to act."

However, it appears the NFF has already made a decision. The Executive Committee has approved Eguavoen's continuation as head coach, leading the team in the AFCON qualifying matches against Libya.

He will also be in charge of the Super Eagles B team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying campaign.

Despite Kanu's endorsement, the NFF's technical appointments have been finalized, with Eguavoen at the helm. The focus now shifts to the team's performance under his leadership.
