Kano Pillars mourn former player Abubakar Lawal

Kano Pillars have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of their former player, Abubakar Lawal, who tragically lost his life in Uganda on Monday, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

Initial reports suggested that Lawal, who played for Ugandan Premier League club Vipers SC, was involved in a traffic accident on his way to the club’s training ground at St. Mary’s Stadium in Entebbe. However, Ugandan authorities have since clarified that he fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade and was not involved in a road crash.

Kano Pillars’ Tribute

Reacting to the 29-year-old’s passing, Kano Pillars shared their condolences via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle:

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our former player, Abubakar Lawal. His untimely departure is a great loss to the football community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lawal’s family, friends, and loved ones.

May his soul rest in peace."

Vipers SC Confirm Lawal’s Death

Vipers SC’s Head of Communications, Abdul Wasike, also confirmed the tragic news on Monday, stating:

"It is a sad day as we communicate the death of our player, Lawal. We are still trying to gather more information about the incident."

Lawal’s Career Journey

Lawal joined Vipers SC in 2022 from Rwandan Premier League side AS Kigali. The forward also had stints with Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists, and Nasarawa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) before moving abroad.

His untimely demise has left the football community in shock, with tributes pouring in from former clubs and teammates.
