Juventus have been fined €10,000 by Italian league authorities after some of their supporters disrupted a minute’s silence for Inter and Italy legend Sandro Mazzola.
Mazzola, a European champion and World Cup runner-up, died on Saturday at the age of 83.
The incident took place before Juventus’ match against Atalanta at Allianz Stadium on 20 September. During the tribute, some supporters in the Curva Sud turned their backs on the pitch before starting chants honouring Juventus legends.
The behaviour was criticised across the football community, with Juventus also publicly condemning the incident shortly after the match.
The league reduced the size of the fine because of the club’s prompt response and because other spectators drowned out the chants with applause.
