New Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has made the AFCON 2023 title a target for himself and his team, Nigeria Soccernet can report.
The Portuguese gaffer who replaced Austin Eguavoen who will lead the team out for their first competitive game under his watch against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Thursday believed his team will not only qualify but also lift the trophy.
"I came here for one goal, I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians," Peseiro said.
"I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players. I have followed Nigeria's history in football from the 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again."
To achieve this dream, Peseiro and his men will first have to cross Sierra Leone hurdles when both team clash on Thursday evening to put themselves in position to pick the group's AFCON ticket and can dream on from there.
