Striker Jordan Ayew says he had a strong conviction of converting the penalty kick that fetched Ghana the opener in 3-0 mauling of Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
The Black Stars clobbered the 2015 AFCON hosts before their home crowd in Malabo in a game that was severely dented by crowd trouble.
Ghana in the end proved too strong for Equatorial Guinea who are widely believed to have over-achieved with their progress to the semi finals.
Jordan Ayew scored Ghana’s opener from the penalty spot after demanding to take the tension-packed kick from the team’s regular penalty taker Andre Ayew.
The Lorient man coolly slotted home – displacing goalkeeper Felipe Ovono in the process.
Jordan says he had the strong conviction he will be successful from the spot having surprised many by voting himself to the vital kick.
“I knew I would score the penalty so I went for the ball and scored,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
Ghana will now face West African giants Cote d’Ivoire in the finals of the tournament on Sunday in Bata.
