Joe Aribo Helps Rangers Make Historic Step Past Celitc

Nigeria’s Joe Aribo was an influential force in midfield as Rangers crushed Celtic 2-0 at the Ibrox Stadium in the fourth round of the Scottish FA Cup.

Aribo featured from start to finish as a Steven Davis effort and a Jonjoe Kenny own goal helped the Light Blues eliminate the Hoops from the competition. This is the earliest stage the dethroned league champions have been knocked out of the FA Cup since the 2005-06 season.

John Kennedy’s men had prepared for this battle in the best possible way – with a 6-0 thrashing of Livingston last weekend.

But Rangers showed no sign of lifting their foot off the throttle as Steven Gerrard’s men, weeks after stunningly securing the league title, now look the favourite to add the cup.

While international teammate Leon Balogun was missing for the Gers due to injury, Aribo was a delight to watch in the middle of the park before being shown a yellow late in the game.

The win ensured Rangers remain undefeated in four meetings versus their eternal rivals this campaign, winning two and drawing the others.

After stopping the defending champions from romping to their fifth consecutive title, Rangers match on towards claiming their first triumph in the competition since 2009.
