Leicester City winger Jeff Schlupp pointed to the togetherness within the squad as a key factor in their recent Barclays Premier League successes. 9.

A 2-0 win over Southampton on Saturday afternoon took their points tally to 37 – three above the dreaded drop zone – and it means that Nigel Pearson’s side have now won six of their last seven.

As a result, top-flight survival is still very much in City’s own hands with two games to go against Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers, but the Foxes’ form has had many observers asking just what it is that has made the difference.

“It is six wins out of seven now and it has come at a crucial time, so the boys are buzzing,” said Schlupp. “When we were in the situation we were in, being at the bottom for so long, it just brought everyone together you know. We knew what was at stake.

“We definitely want to stay in the Premier League, everyone does, but it really kicked in that we needed to get the results to give us the chance. I think we have done that very well.”

Against Southampton it was Riyad Mahrez that chipped in with a brace of goals, but for Schlupp, it doesn’t matter who’s putting thet ball in the net at the moment.

He said: “It is always nice to see a few other players apart from the strikers chipping in with a few goals. They have been crucial ones as well.

“We have also got four clean sheets from the six games so that is another big positive. We have to concentrate on our games really. As long we do that then we will be fine. We have to worry about ourselves and we will be okay.”
