Veteran Ghanaian coach JE Sarpong has launched a stinging pot shot at ‘hypocrites’ ex-trainees who have poured tributes in the wake of the death of legendary coach Jones Attuquayefio.
The demise of the 70-year-old has triggered massive tributes from key stakeholders of the game including officials, players and fans.
The late Hearts of Oak coach was responsible for nurturing and honing the talents of many Ghanaian footballers until his demise.
He was bed-ridden for eight years due to a throat cancer and Ebusua Dwarfs trainer JE Sarpong has lashed out at his former trainees for neglecting him during his difficult moments.
“You will be seeing all the big players that came through Jones Attuquayefio coming to his funeral with bog cars,” he lamented on Asempa FM.
“They will be donating big cash at the funeral but then you ask yourself where were they when the man was ill.
“How many were able to visit him when he was sick?
“We have totally lost the sense of nationalism for the people we claim are our heroes.”
Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is one of the few trainees who helped the deceased coach financially.
