Islam Slimani has no intention of retiring despite being without a club at the age of 38.
The Algeria international became a free agent after his contract with Romanian side CFR Cluj came to an end. Although he is now without a team and is at an age when many players leave top-level football, Slimani remains determined to continue his professional career.
Speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, the veteran striker said he wanted to carry on playing and was waiting for a concrete offer. Slimani has represented 14 clubs in nine countries during his career, with his experience including a spell at Monaco.
The former Monaco forward believes his physical condition means he is still capable of competing at the highest level. He says he remains in excellent overall shape, although he does not want to rush into making a decision about his future.
Slimani’s career has included football in several different countries, and he is now assessing where his next opportunity could come from. With most European transfer windows already closed, the striker is still waiting for a suitable proposal.
AfricaFoot has reported that Slimani has a number of possible options in Asia. In Africa, Ittihad Tanger had also shown interest in signing the 38-year-old forward, according to the publication’s sources.
For now, retirement has been ruled out by Slimani, who continues to look for another club and a final challenge in professional football.
