Zakharyan misses out on Real Sociedad starting XI for Celta clash

Published on: 03 September 2026

Arsen Zakharyan has been named among the substitutes once again as Real Sociedad prepare to face Celta in the sixth round of La Liga.

The Russian midfielder is not included in Real Sociedad’s starting line-up for the meeting on 3 September, continuing a difficult start to the 2026-27 season. The match is scheduled to kick off at 22:00 Moscow time.

Real Sociedad will begin the game with Alex Remiro in goal. The defensive line consists of Jon Aramburu, Igor Zubeldia, Martin Zubimendi and Sergio Gomez.

Brais Mendez and Benat Turrientes are listed in midfield, while Orri Oskarsson, Takefusa Kubo, Ander Barrenetxea and Mikel Oyarzabal make up the attacking options named in the starting XI.

Zakharyan will therefore begin on the bench, despite being part of the matchday squad. The 23-year-old has made only one appearance on the pitch this season, playing three minutes in total during the 2026-27 campaign.

His limited involvement has been highlighted by an incident in Real Sociedad’s most recent match. After it became clear that the team’s final substitution would not be used to bring him on, Zakharyan threw his shirt and left the area.

Real Sociedad later explained that the player had wanted to go to the toilet. The club’s account followed the visible show of frustration as Zakharyan again failed to receive playing time.

The latest team selection means the Russian will have to wait for another opportunity to feature, with Real Sociedad choosing the same group of starting players for their home meeting with Celta. Zakharyan’s inclusion among the substitutes gives him the possibility of being introduced during the match, but he will not be involved from the opening whistle.

Real Sociedad and Celta meet on 3 September in the sixth round of La Liga. The fixture begins at 22:00 Moscow time.
