Premier League side West Ham United have become the latest club to express interest in Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu, with Trabzonspor reportedly rejecting a €30 million bid for the centre-back, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nwaiwu has attracted widespread attention following an impressive start to life in Turkey after joining Trabzonspor from Austrian outfit Wolfsberger AC during the winter transfer window.
The 22-year-old quickly established himself as a key figure on Fatih Tekke's side, producing a series of commanding performances at the heart of the defence.
The Nigeria international contributed three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances for the Claret and Blues and also played a pivotal role in the club's successful Turkish Cup campaign.
Interest in the former Enyimba defender has continued to grow, with several clubs across Europe monitoring his situation ahead of the new season.
Reports indicate that Fulham FC have already seen two offers turned down by Trabzonspor, while Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen are also credited with a strong interest in the defender.
According to Turkish publication Taka Gazete, West Ham have now entered the race and recently submitted a €30 million bid, which was also rejected by the Turkish club.
Trabzonspor are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of €35 million before they will consider parting ways with one of their most prized assets.
With interest continuing to intensify from both the Premier League and Bundesliga, Nwaiwu's future is expected to remain one of the major transfer stories involving Nigerian players during the summer window.
