Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk described his side’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Brighton as “not very pretty, but effective”.
The Reds secured all three points through an own goal by Brighton and a finish from Alexander Isak, with the decisive strikes coming in the 17th and 21st minutes respectively.
Liverpool were outperformed by the visitors in terms of shots, while Brighton had significantly less possession. Despite those statistics, Liverpool protected their advantage to complete the win.
The result leaves Liverpool fourth in the Premier League table with 15 points. Brighton remain third on 16 points.
Andoni Iraola’s side were unable to find a response after falling two goals behind, as Liverpool’s defence held firm for a victory which Van Dijk characterised as effective rather than stylish.
