Former Roma captain Francesco Totti says he may have won the Ballon d’Or had he accepted a move to Real Madrid in 2004.
Totti was asked how much he regretted turning down the Spanish club during his career.
“I would not say I regret it, but there is still a feeling of ‘what if?’” Totti told Corriere della Sera.
“In 2004, Real Madrid’s Galacticos – they were called that for good reason – included players such as Beckham and Zidane. I would have won everything. Perhaps I would even have won the Ballon d’Or.
“But in the end, everything worked out well. At that moment, I made the decision by listening to my heart.”
Totti spent his entire playing career with Roma.
