Tottenham newcomer Mykhailo Mudryk has suffered an injury only shortly after joining the London club, with the Ukraine winger expected to be sidelined for between six and eight weeks.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mudryk’s recovery could extend into the second half of October, even in the most favourable circumstances. The setback comes soon after his move to Tottenham and is an early blow for a player who has only just begun his time with the club.
Mudryk joined Tottenham from Chelsea on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window. Despite the move, he has so far made only one official appearance for his new club.
The injury is particularly unfortunate given Mudryk’s limited recent playing time. The Ukraine international has not played professional football for the past couple of years after being suspended for doping while he was a Chelsea player.
That absence means the winger had only recently returned to competitive football before this latest setback. His spell at Tottenham has therefore been interrupted almost immediately after his arrival, with his anticipated recovery period lasting up to two months.
Tottenham secured Mudryk’s services from Chelsea on deadline day, adding him to their squad after the summer window was close to shutting. However, the player has had little opportunity to establish himself in the team, having taken part in just one competitive match since completing the move.
The length of the lay-off reported by Romano means Mudryk may not be available again until the latter part of October. A return during the second half of that month would represent the quickest expected recovery, while a longer rehabilitation could keep him out beyond that point.
For now, Tottenham will have to wait for the Ukraine winger to recover before he can build momentum at his new club. The move from Chelsea was intended to give Mudryk a fresh start, but his early period with Tottenham has instead been overshadowed by injury.
The latest problem follows a prolonged period away from professional football, making the timing especially difficult for the player. Mudryk had only just begun his new chapter in north London after joining Tottenham on loan, and his involvement has been restricted to one official match.
The club’s new signing is now facing a period of rehabilitation estimated at six to eight weeks. If his recovery proceeds as well as possible, he could return in the second half of October.
