President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, after their impressive victory over Brazil in Wednesday’s semi-final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The result secured Nigeria’s place in the final, which President Tinubu described as a remarkable achievement that had brought immense pride and joy to millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

He also recognised the contribution of the coaching crew, along with everyone whose dedication, hard work and support have helped the team produce an impressive campaign throughout the tournament.

The Flamingos will face Japan in the final, and Tinubu called on the players to maintain their focus, confidence and determination as they prepare for the decisive match.

He assured the team that they would have the prayers, goodwill and unwavering support of Nigerians.

“I encourage you to approach the final with the same fighting spirit and belief that have brought you this far. I have confidence in your ability to make history by winning the coveted world title,” the President said.

Tinubu also appealed to Nigerians to support the team, describing the players as young ambassadors whose success was highlighting the country’s sporting excellence.

“I call on all Nigerians to rally behind these young ambassadors of our nation, whose achievements continue to showcase Nigeria’s sporting excellence and inspire a new generation of girls to pursue their dreams without limitations,” he added.

The President said the team had made the country proud and urged the players to secure the trophy.

“Once again, Nigeria is proud of you. Go for the trophy, Flamingos!” he said.
