Super Falcons fall to 43rd in latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have slipped seven places to 43rd in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, but remain Africa’s top-ranked women’s national team.

The rankings, released on Tuesday morning, show Nigeria dropping from 36th globally after a difficult run of results in recent competitions.

The Super Falcons exited the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the quarter-final stage in Morocco. Their campaign included defeats by Malawi and Cameroon.

Nigeria also suffered a 2-1 loss to South Africa in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-offs.

The 10-time African champions did record two wins against Comoros in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games, but those victories were not enough to prevent their fall in the latest standings.

Despite Nigeria’s decline, the country continues to lead the African rankings. South Africa are second on the continent, followed by Morocco, Ghana and Zambia.

There has been no change at the top of the global list, with Spain retaining first place. The United States remain second, while Germany, England and Japan complete the top five.

The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings is scheduled to be published on Monday, December 7, 2026.
