Sporting Lagos settle for Kano Pillars draw despite late chance in NPFL

Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter said his side were satisfied to leave with a point from their Nigeria Professional Football League meeting with Kano Pillars, despite missing an opportunity to claim victory.

The teams played out a 1-1 draw in a closely fought encounter in which both sides had spells of pressure. Sporting Lagos created the clearest opening of the match late in the second half, but could not find the decisive finish needed to take all three points.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Buter acknowledged that his team had allowed a chance to win the game to pass them by. However, he said the result remained valuable given the circumstances of the match.

“We’re content with the point even though we could’ve gotten three with the best chance in the game at 1-1,” Buter said.

The Sporting Lagos coach’s comments reflected the balance between disappointment at the late missed opportunity and satisfaction with the team’s performance away from home.

Both clubs had traded attacking moments before the match ended level, with neither able to produce a winner after the score reached 1-1. Sporting Lagos’ late chance offered them the possibility of changing the outcome, but Kano Pillars held on to secure a share of the points.

Buter said his players would now turn their attention to recovering before their next fixture, rather than dwelling on the result.

“We’ll rest now and shift our focus to the next game,” he added.

The draw gives Sporting Lagos another result to build on as they continue their campaign in the domestic league. Their ability to hold Kano Pillars away from home, despite the frustration of not converting their best chance, provides the basis for the side to maintain its progress in the demanding Nigeria Professional Football League schedule.
