Sporting Lagos were forced to settle for a point at home after Barau FC held them to a 1-1 draw in their NPFL Matchday Six encounter on Saturday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Barau FC took the initiative in the 35th minute when Joseph Atule stepped up from the penalty spot and converted to give the visitors a first-half advantage.
The hosts returned from the break with greater attacking intent as they looked to get back into the contest.
Their efforts paid off in the 61st minute when Sodiq Ayoade found the equaliser to restore parity and give Sporting Lagos a route back into the game.
The goal sparked further attacking exchanges as both sides pushed forward in search of a winner.
Barau FC, however, held firm against the late pressure, while Sporting Lagos were unable to find the finishing touch needed to complete the comeback.
Despite the efforts from both teams in the closing stages, neither could produce another goal as the contest ended 1-1.
The result gives Barau FC a valuable point away from home, while Sporting Lagos will have to be satisfied with a share of the spoils on their own turf.
Both teams will now shift their focus to their next fixtures as the NPFL Matchday Six round concludes.
