USFA finished third in the UFOA-B Women’s qualifying tournament after beating Benin’s Dynamique FC 4-1 at the Stade du 4-Aout in Ouagadougou on Saturday.
The victory gave the Burkinabe side a strong finish to their regional campaign, following their elimination in the semi-finals. Known as Les Colombes, USFA secured the bronze medal with a convincing performance in the tournament’s third-place match.
Dielawalea Sow put USFA ahead after just six minutes, scoring her third goal of the competition. The early breakthrough gave the home side control of the contest and provided a positive response after their semi-final disappointment.
USFA extended their advantage in the 26th minute when Leslie Beremwidougou found the net to make it 2-0. Dynamique FC responded before half-time, reducing the deficit and giving the Benin side renewed hope as the teams went into the interval with USFA leading 2-1.
The Burkinabe team reasserted their authority after the restart. Dynamique FC were unable to find another way back into the match as USFA took greater control of the second half.
Sow completed her brace in the 77th minute, taking her total for the tournament to four goals. Her second goal restored USFA’s two-goal cushion and put Les Colombes firmly on course for victory.
Deborah Guira then completed the scoring seven minutes from time. Her 83rd-minute strike was her third goal of the competition and confirmed USFA’s 4-1 success.
The result sees USFA end the UFOA-B Women’s qualifying tournament in third place, allowing them to leave the competition with a bronze medal. It also provided a positive conclusion to a campaign that had ended in disappointment in the semi-finals.
For Dynamique FC, the defeat meant they finished fourth after conceding four goals in the third-place fixture. USFA’s attacking players made the difference, with Sow, Beremwidougou and Guira all contributing to the victory.
The Burkina Faso side’s four goals were scored across both halves, while their opponents’ only response came before the break. USFA therefore completed the tournament with a decisive win in front of the home crowd at the Stade du 4-Aout.
Sow’s two goals were particularly significant in the final result, adding to her earlier strike in the competition and bringing her overall tally to four. Guira also ended the tournament with three goals after adding the final goal against Dynamique FC.
USFA’s bronze-medal finish completes their regional campaign with a result that matched the dominant nature of their performance in the final match.
