Real Madrid have appealed Ibrahima Konate’s latest yellow card in an effort to ensure the defender is available for their El Clasico meeting with Barcelona on 25 October.
Konate has quickly become an important part of Jose Mourinho’s plans since joining the club on a free transfer from Liverpool during the summer. The France international has started seven of Real Madrid’s eight La Liga matches so far.
His disciplinary record, however, has become a concern during his first months in Spanish football. Konate has committed nine fouls in 2026/27, the highest total in the Real Madrid squad.
He has also been booked four times this season. The latest caution came during last weekend’s 1-0 league victory over Villarreal, when he was penalised for a foul on Gerard Moreno.
Real Madrid believe that booking was not sufficient to warrant a yellow card and have lodged an appeal against the decision. The club are seeking to prevent Konate from facing a possible suspension that could rule him out of the trip to Barcelona.
If the appeal fails, Mourinho may choose to leave Konate out of the side for Real Madrid’s meeting with Sevilla on 18 October. That would allow the defender to avoid the risk of missing the following weekend’s El Clasico.
