Tottenham defender Pedro Porro has denied receiving genuine offers from Real Madrid or Barcelona, despite speculation linking him with a move away from Spurs.
The 27-year-old signed a new contract with Tottenham last season, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2031. That agreement came despite the club recording successive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.
Porro subsequently put Tottenham’s domestic difficulties to one side and played an important role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup victory. His performances at the tournament prompted reports that he could return to his home country, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona said to be interested.
However, speaking to El Larguero, Porro said there had been no formal approach from either club during the most recent transfer window.
“I’m obviously really looking forward to returning to Spain one day,” he said. “It’s my country and I like the league.
“But right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I’m under contract. They [Spurs] have shown me a lot of respect, which is mutual.”
Asked directly whether Real Madrid or Barcelona had made an offer for him, Porro replied: “No. There was interest because they ask what your situation is, but there wasn’t real interest.
“There were rumours, but I was focused on doing well for my country. If there’s genuine interest, they call you directly, and that didn’t happen.
“Some clubs did enquire to find out my situation, but there was no genuine interest. I didn’t want to pay too much attention to it.”
Porro’s comments indicate that, while clubs made enquiries about his circumstances, neither Real Madrid nor Barcelona took steps to pursue a transfer.
The Spain international remains under contract with Tottenham until 2031 after extending his deal last season. His future became a subject of increased attention following his contribution to Spain’s 2026 World Cup success, but he has made clear that his immediate focus remains on his current club.
