Paris Saint-Germain’s midfield control and attacking threat praised after FC Barcelona win

Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League was built on more than an impressive scoreline, according to football analyst Ramiz Alim Gouem.

The French club’s performance at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday 20 October 2026 was defined by its intensity without the ball, its attacking quality and its control in midfield. Those qualities, Gouem believes, explain why Paris Saint-Germain are currently such a strong side.

“Paris Saint-Germain are a strong team because of their attacking quality and their pressing immediately after losing the ball,” he said.

That approach prevents opponents from settling into the match and establishing their preferred style of play. By attempting to win possession back quickly, Paris Saint-Germain can disrupt attacks before they develop and make it difficult for the opposition to build from the back.

Gouem also highlighted the contribution of the club’s wide attacking players, particularly Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue. Their ability to take on defenders, change pace and create openings gives Paris Saint-Germain another way to unsettle organised teams.

“With wingers such as Kvara and Doue, it becomes easier to make a defence porous,” he said.

The analyst believes the pair’s individual qualities are important to the way Paris Saint-Germain attack. Their movement and ability to create space can open gaps in defensive structures, while their acceleration adds pressure to opponents already dealing with the team’s aggressive pressing.

Gouem also identified the midfield as another area of strength for Paris Saint-Germain, with Joao Neves and Vitinha providing different but complementary qualities.

He praised Joao Neves for his precision in duels, his reading of the game and his ability to anticipate situations before they develop. Those attributes help the midfielder compete for possession and support the team’s efforts to regain control.

Vitinha, meanwhile, was singled out for his technical ability and his capacity to select the right pass at the right moment. Gouem considers that quality important to the fluidity of Paris Saint-Germain’s play, allowing the side to move the ball effectively once possession has been recovered.

For the analyst, the combination of a high-intensity press, attacking power and technical control gives Paris Saint-Germain a strong platform to maintain their progress.

“Paris Saint-Germain are still moving forward,” Gouem concluded, as he backed the club to continue asserting themselves on the European stage.
