Victor Osimhen is hoping to recover in time to feature for Galatasaray in their UEFA Champions League meeting with Sporting Lisbon next week after suffering an injury in Friday’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The Nigeria international was forced off during the first half of the away fixture after picking up the setback, although he remains optimistic about returning to action quickly.
Osimhen said he did not want to take unnecessary risks with the injury but would like to play against Sporting Lisbon if the medical and coaching teams consider him fit enough.
“I have nothing; I didn't want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said.
Galatasaray have confirmed that the striker has undergone further medical examinations, including an MRI scan, to establish the severity of the injury and determine whether there are any risks associated with an early return.
The Turkish champions are expected to monitor Osimhen closely in the coming days before deciding whether he will be available for the Champions League encounter.
