Victor Osimhen is aiming to recover from injury in time to feature for Galatasaray against Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League next week.
The Nigeria international was forced off during the first half of Galatasaray’s 3-2 away win against Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday. The injury immediately raised doubts over whether the striker would be available for the Turkish champions’ next European fixture.
Osimhen remains hopeful that he can return in time for the match and has indicated that he does not want to take unnecessary risks with his fitness.
“I have nothing, I didn't want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said.
Galatasaray have confirmed that the forward has undergone further medical assessment, including an MRI scan. The examinations are intended to establish the full extent of the injury and determine the risks associated with a possible early return.
The club are expected to continue monitoring Osimhen’s condition before deciding whether he can play against Sporting CP. A final decision on his availability will be based on his recovery and the medical assessment of whether he is fit to take part.
Osimhen’s latest injury comes at an important stage of Galatasaray’s European campaign. Since joining the club on a permanent basis, he has established himself as a significant part of their attack, making his fitness a major consideration ahead of the Champions League encounter.
His potential return would be a considerable boost for Galatasaray, although the club will be cautious about rushing him back before he is ready. The striker’s early departure against Istanbul Basaksehir means his recovery will now be closely followed in the build-up to next week’s fixture.
For Osimhen, the priority is to be available if Galatasaray’s coach and medical staff believe it is safe for him to play. His own desire to feature against Sporting CP is clear, but the club must first assess the results of the MRI scan and his response during recovery.
Galatasaray secured a 3-2 victory in their most recent match, but Osimhen’s injury has created uncertainty around their attacking options before the UEFA Champions League tie. The Turkish champions will therefore wait for further medical information before confirming whether the Super Eagles forward can return to action.
