Chibuike Nwaiwu says Trabzonspor’s failure to convert their chances left the team frustrated after they suffered a 1-0 defeat by Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig, Completesports.com reports.
The Black Sea Storm were beaten away from home on Sunday after Rajmund Toth scored the only goal of the match just two minutes after kick-off.
Trabzonspor had opportunities to recover from the early setback, but could not find a way past Konyaspor’s defence. Their failure to take those chances allowed the hosts to secure all three points.
Nigerian defender Nwaiwu thanked the supporters who travelled to watch the match, while acknowledging that the result had been shaped by the two sides’ contrasting finishing.
“I always want to say this: I thank our fans who came all the way here. Football is like that; sometimes you can’t take advantage of opportunities, while your opponent takes advantage of the opportunities they get,” he told A Spor.
Nwaiwu also described the defeat as particularly difficult for Trabzonspor, saying the players were feeling both anger and sadness after the final whistle.
“Actually, I’m very angry and very sad right now. It was a very demoralising defeat for all of us,” he added.
The result leaves Trabzonspor needing a response when they return to action on Saturday. They will host defending champions Galatasaray in their next match.
