Super Eagles defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has been handed a two-match suspension following his red card in Trabzonspor’s UEFA Europa League playoff first-leg defeat to Ferencváros, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Trabzonspor suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at Papara Park, with Kristoffer Zachariassen scoring the only goal of the encounter in the 17th minute.

Nwaiwu was sent off in the closing stages of the tightly contested match, leaving Trabzonspor to complete the game with 10 players.

As a result, the Nigeria international will miss Thursday night’s second leg at the Ferencváros Stadion.

The 23-year-old will also be suspended for Trabzonspor’s opening league-phase fixture if the Turkish club overturns the first-leg deficit and qualifies for the next stage of the competition.

Nwaiwu has established himself as a regular member of the Black Sea Storm since joining the club from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in January.

The centre-back has also featured twice for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig this season.
