NLO Cup Kick-Off Moved to October 17

The Nationwide League One (NLO) has shifted the start date of the 2026 NLO Cup by one week, with the competition now scheduled to kick off on Saturday, October 17, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The tournament was originally expected to begin on October 10, but the organisers said the postponement would allow more time to complete logistical arrangements, maintenance work at designated venues and outstanding registration and administrative processes involving participating clubs.

In a revised notice to the clubs, the NLO Secretariat explained that the adjustment was made in the overall interest of the competition to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place before the opening matches.

The league body also confirmed that the fixtures would be released no later than Tuesday, October 13, giving teams time to plan for their respective games.

Acknowledging the possible impact of the revised schedule on travel plans, logistics and technical preparations, the Secretariat urged participating clubs to cooperate with the organisers and continue their preparations for the new date.

The NLO stressed that the decision was aimed at ensuring a smooth and competitive tournament for all involved.

The 2026 NLO Cup is expected to offer participating clubs an opportunity to test their strength while providing emerging players with a platform to showcase their abilities.

The competition also forms part of the league’s broader efforts to develop grassroots football, improve club standards and create more competitive opportunities for teams across Nigeria.

With the new kick-off date confirmed, clubs will now await the release of the fixtures as preparations continue for the tournament.
