Napoli face Bodo/Glimt test after difficult Champions League start

Napoli welcome Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on 20 October 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Italian club will be looking to recover from a disappointing week after suffering a 1-0 defeat by Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo last weekend.

Venezia had not taken a point before the meeting, but Akor Adams, the former Sevilla forward, settled the match with the winning goal in the 49th minute.

That result adds to Napoli’s difficult start in Europe. They opened their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-0 loss against Arsenal last month before taking the lead against Villarreal last week. However, Napoli were unable to hold on and eventually lost 3-1 to the Spanish side, known as the Yellow Submarine.

Bodo/Glimt arrive in Italy having restored their momentum with a notable victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Kjetil Knutsen’s side began this season’s European campaign with a heavy 5-0 defeat by Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. They responded last week, beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the Arctic Circle.

Fredrik Sjovold scored the decisive goal in the second half to give Bodo/Glimt their first points of the campaign.

The Norwegian club also have recent experience of progressing deep into the competition. Despite their modest size, Bodo/Glimt reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League last season and will be aiming to repeat that achievement this time around.

Napoli therefore face a side that has already shown its ability to respond after a difficult opening result, while the hosts arrive at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona having lost their previous two matches in the competition and in domestic football.
