Napoli consider Massimiliano Allegri’s future after worst start in 20 years

Napoli’s poor opening to the season has raised doubts over Massimiliano Allegri’s position after the club suffered a fifth defeat in their first nine matches in all competitions.

The sequence of results is Napoli’s worst for 20 years and has placed Allegri’s future under increasing pressure.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, some of the manager’s team selections for the match against Venezia reportedly surprised Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Napoli lost that game, further intensifying scrutiny of Allegri’s decisions.

No change has been confirmed, but possible replacements are being considered should the situation deteriorate further.

Former Juventus manager Igor Tudor and Thiago Motta are among the potential successors being discussed. Vincenzo Montella has also emerged as a candidate after recently becoming available following the end of his work with the Turkey national team.
