Mbimbe sees clear direction in Pagou’s Cameroon squad for Namibia

David Pagou has named a 28-player Cameroon squad for the double-header against Namibia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and former Indomitable Lions defender Aaron Mbimbe believes the selection is coherent.

The squad includes four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 10 midfielders and four forwards.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Mbimbe said Pagou’s approach was beginning to take shape, with the coach maintaining the foundations established at the last major competition.

The former Cameroon defender believes that continuity can help stabilise the squad while also allowing new players to be introduced.

However, Mbimbe questioned some of the defensive selections. Although 10 defenders have been called up, several players involved during the last FIFA international window are not included this time.

Mbimbe also praised Pagou for recognising performances in the local championship. The squad features players from La Colombe du Sud, as well as the young captain of the Cameroon Under-20 side.

Ivan Jordan Nana is among the players highlighted by Mbimbe as a surprise selection by Pagou.

Overall, Mbimbe believes the Cameroon coach is remaining committed to his plan and has not moved away from the rebuilding process under way with the national team.
