Liverpool are reportedly the leading contenders to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the winter transfer window.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Monaco have increased their asking price for the 22-year-old to 70 million euros after his proposed move to Chelsea fell through in the summer. Chelsea had been prepared to pay 55 million euros for the Senegal international.

The report says Chelsea are unlikely to return for Camara at the higher price, although their interest cannot be completely ruled out. The midfielder is understood to be particularly admired by Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool are now considered the first option for Camara, with the club looking to strengthen the centre of their midfield. However, the Merseyside club are also assessing alternatives, including Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Manu Kone of Roma.

Camara has made seven appearances for Monaco in all competitions this season. He has scored one goal and provided one assist.
